Sasu Ripatti, better known as Vladislav Delay, has put together an electro-acoustic quartet whose album Debut is about to be released on Honest Jon's May 16th. Leaving the electronics duties to fellow Finnish experimentalist Mika Vainio (Pan Sonic), Ripatti handles the percussion. Bassist Derek Shirley and soprano saxophonist/bass clarinetist Lucio Capece round out the lineup. In the tracks below, spacious improvisations are cut, pasted and projected through shattered prisms, bass clarinet drones loom ominous and dignified beats tick triumphant. Music to my ears.
