Today marks the release of The Material, a recording pairing 7 solo performances by avant guitarist Charles Gillett with a comprehensive "de-mix" of said material by laptop wizard Mike Hallenbeck. This is music lesson 81 from Insides Music, a prolific Minneapolis label harvesting the rich margins of every musical subfetish imaginable. As with his 2009 release A = B. A is B. A represents B (do what I do, do what I say). (Insides Music lesson 65), Gillett delicately eviscerates his instrument, dissecting the noumena of guitarisms from delta blues to Incus arcana. Hallenbeck's response echoes his Eventualities 1: Voice (2007, Insides Music lesson 48), translating Gillett's guitar into a language the ghost of Maryanne Amacher can understand.
