On Friday and Saturday nights this weekend (14th & 15th), the Southern Theater hosts an ensemble presenting a composite aesthetic both west African and electronic. Hailing from various parts of the globe, Burkina Electric (comprised of Austrian composer Lukas Ligeti, German electronic musician Kurt Dahlke, Burkina Faso born singer Maï Lingani, Burkina guitarist Wende K. Blass and background singer-dancers “As” Zoko Zoko and “Vicky” Idrissa Kafando) cyberizes African folk and pop stylings, delivering catchy Afropop with a bold electronic edge. The Southern performances also feature Minnesota dancers Leah Nelson and Kenna Sarge and an opening set from Ligeti himself.
