Last of the Record Buyers
A while back, The Somethin' Else was featuring profiles on some of the innovative music series in the Twin Cities. One of the holdouts, certainly one of most distinguished of the bunch, is Last of the Record Buyers. Something like an open mic for producers which, until very recently, was held monthly at Fifth Element in Minneapolis, Last of the Record Buyers provided a supportive forum for producers to share their beats, network and gain insight into the productive process. Co-founder Brandon Allday Bagaason of Big Quarters provided me with this informative postscript to the series as we knew it, as well as news of a compilation release and showcase at Soundset 2012.
What is your series called?
Last of the Record Buyers
How often and where does your series take place?
LRB Producer Showcase coming up at Soundset 2012
How long have you been doing your series?
5 years
What compelled you to start your series?
Giving light to Hip-Hop producers
What is unique about your series?
When we put hip-hop producers on stage, we're putting them in the driver seat as far as networking with vocalists and making a name. And for many of the producers we work with, they're stepping outside of their comfort zone.
How does your series contribute to the good of the community?
In addition to giving upcomers a platform, we're giving recognition to the veterans.
We love the art. And when we connect the history with the present and future, our community is stronger.
What have some of the highlights been for you so far?
Last of the Record Buyers Production Battle @ Scribble Jam
Last of the Record Buyers Showcase @ Soundset
Content Under Pressure
What are your thoughts on music in the Twin Cities?
